What to expect

Free Initial Consultation
During your free initial consultation, your therapist will ask you to briefly describe your difficulties, how they are affecting you today, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. The therapist will explain their approach to therapy, discuss potential outcomes, and address any questions you have about therapy and The Mitland Plan. Availability and scheduling will also be discussed during this call.

Assessment Session (3 Hours)
You will receive at least three hours of assessment, usually split between two appointments. During the assessment sessions your therapist will take a comprehensive mental health and trauma history, as well as details about your current circumstances. During this session, your therapist will outline what to expect from their approach and introduce you to the resources that will support you throughout therapy. By the end of the assessment, you and your therapist will have a clear understanding of your therapeutic focus and goals.

Preparation (Self-Directed)
Between your assessment and treatment, you will have access to resources through a secure login. These resources include videos, workbooks, and meditations tailored to trauma and PTSD, which you can engage with at your own pace. Research shows that preparation activities prior to treatment significantly improve therapy outcomes.

Treatment (9 Hours)
The Mitland Plan includes nine hours of one-to-one trauma-focused work with your therapist. During this time, you will work on processing past experiences that may be holding you back. Your therapist is highly experienced in guiding clients through therapy to achieve their goals. If trauma-focused work is not suitable for you, your therapist will explore alternative ways to support your progress.

Aftercare (1 Hour)
We understand the importance of feeling supported beyond therapy. Following your treatment, you will have a follow-up session with your therapist at a convenient time. During this session, you will review what you have learned and achieved, and identify any areas for further work. You will also receive advice on maintaining your recovery and self-care going forward.
